Erotic romance in the news

US Today had an article recently on romances getting hotter. Oddly enough they didn't talk about Ellora's Cave and Jaid Black. They focused on the New York presses. I know several readers were writing them with good reason. I don't see how you can talk about current erotic romance trends and not mention Ellora's Cave. I maybe biased (they are my publisher after all) but I think it's more, they paved the way for the current trends in mainstream publishing.

Also, Geraldo did a segment on erotic romance. I missed it, it's not shown in my area but I heard it was fairly favorable. They featured a couple of authors, especially in Kensington's Aphrodisia line. I went to the bookstore last weekend, and that line was very prominently featured at my Borders' bookstore.

Definitely an interesting time for those who like reading and writing erotic romance.

The best kind of compliment

I sent some writing to a friend to read over. I got a very excited IM back. She loved the story. And had lost track of time reading our writing.

I can't think of any better compliment for writing than, "I lost track of time reading," or, "I kept having to turn the pages."

A humorous thought

So I was shopping for Valentine's Day. And I had to laugh. Shopping for a guy is hard, especially my guy. Yes, he likes gadgets and computer stuff, but that hardly seems romantic. He doesn't like chocolate (I know blasphemy), he's not big on flowers or balloons, and I was informed if I brought in one more stuffed animal to the house...well, it woudn't be pretty. Lingerie, just always seems like it's really more for me.

The funny thing is, that I know if I asked him right now what he'd want for Valentine's. And it doesn't come from a store *blush*. LOL so sometimes I do wonder why I shop for the romantic holidays.

Erotic romance debates

Have been going on for a while now and still are. The latest blog entry by Alison Kent: http://www.alisonkent.com/blog

It amazes me that people will dismiss a whole genre either based on what they like or don't like or based on "bad writing."

Are there things I don't like to read? Sure there are. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of some forms of science fiction. But I'd never poo poo the genre just because I'm not a fan. It may not be my fun read but there are people who love it. I don't expect everyone to love vampires, paranormals, or erotic romance. Different tastes for different folks.

All literary genres have badly written examples that one can pull out and say, "See, it's all crap."

What really got my goat on the forum that Alison Kent posted the link to, was the poster who worried about readers who enjoy erotica/erotic romance and writers who write it.

I'm rather proud to stand up and say, "Yeah, I read erotic romance, and I enjoy it." Do I enjoy every book I read? Heck no. But there are ones I do enjoy, that are well written. Robin Schone (ooooh yeah), Sahara Kelly & SL Carpenter, and others.

And I'm extremely proud to stand up and say, "I write erotic romance." We have our first novel coming out from Ellora's Cave. I'm proud of that, of the work we did putting it together. And the fun we had writing it.

Guess what state Ellora's Cave gets the most hits from?

According to an article on Jaid Black in RT magazine....Virginia. *blinks* it's not because of me, I swear! LOL. It made me snicker because Virginia is such a conservative state. The DH did mention it might be because of AOL being housed in Northern Virginia. But still, interesting factoid.

And guess who's now listed on Ellora's Cave as an author? *g* Yep, that would be us!!! It's so exciting. We have more big news we should be able to share soon.
